Player’s path at the YMCA
Children’s basketball is an activity for children under school age, where basic physical skills and the joy of exercise are the main thing. Versatile ball handling skills are practiced through games and play. This time is the preparatory time for basketball skills.
YMCA Tampere basketball team activities start from 8 years old and continue all the way to the oldest junior age group, i.e. under 19 years old.
The goal of the U9-U12 teams is to generate enthusiasm for basketball and create the skills to develop as basketball players.
The starting point of the U13-U19 teams is to offer activities that are in line with the skill level, interest and goals of the individuals. Athletes are given the opportunity to compete and develop their skills according to their own level.
Physical training coordinated by basketball activities is carried out for U13-U19 teams.
Morning exercises are made possible in cooperation with Tampere basketball clubs, Tampere Sports Academy and Nokia Basketball Academy.
YBL activities for U8-U16 age groups are a casual hobby without competitive goals. Players practice basic basketball skills 1-3 times a week, improve basic fitness and promote a physical lifestyle.
A player’s path can begin at any stage of junior age. The scope of activities allows for both hobby and competition. Along the way, a player’s motivation level and commitment can change. A player can move from team activities to hobby activities and vice versa.
Coaching is mainly carried out by full-time coaches who work closely with coaches from other age groups, which also enables players to move between teams.
